Technology in Sport

'Athletes from a range of sports are using virtual reality to accelerate their training program (Akbaş et al., 2019). Virtual sports involve the encouragement of physical fitness and sports. They also entail physical exertion using real bikes or treadmills associated to programs. This drives the fitness aspect to the gaming world to involve fitness enthusiasts, professional athletes, and individuals looking to augment their physical activity and components of gaming (Yun-chao, Ren Mengyao and Li, 2023). VR can also enable helpful sports psychology and a faster recovery when athletes are injured. This is through collaborating and engaging training that aids in reclaiming strength, balance, and mobility. This also permits athletes to preserve a competitive edge while recovering from an injury. A player can also focus on advancing specific skills with supreme accuracy. This can help decrease anxiety, and develop mental resilience for high-pressure circumstances (Brownlee, 2022). However, a disadvantage of VR is movement sickness, as some competitors may encounter discomfort while using VR headsets, impacting their training sessions and focus. This can also influence their physical motion due to being stuck in one place a cable, affecting their sporting performance. VR also indicates an absence of physical contact, this would be an issue for heavy contact sports (Düking, Holmberg and Sperlich, 2018). This also reduces social interaction and ability for an athlete to experience real life scenarios.
